Q&A with Tiger

[WARNING: The post may contain spoilers.]

Tiger is a new author, but a good one. He writes stories such as The Sorcerous Prince, and Dark Earth: The Prophecy.

Q. Tell me a little bit about yourself

I was born Kansas City, Missouri in 1982 and grew up about 50-60 miles south of there. I now live in the Dallas area, about 30-40 minutes from downtown Dallas. I like traveling, listening to a variety of music, watching movies, video games, computers, and spending time with my family. I’m also an anime and manga fan.

Q. What inspires you to write?

I have an active imagination. Though I’m grown up, I still love fantasy worlds, and I love creating my own when the inspiration is there.

3. What are your favourite books?

I like just about anything of the fantasy or sci-fi genre. I love the Harry Potter series. I also like the Spellsong Cycle series as well as the and the Saga of Recluse by L.E. Modesitt, Jr.

Q. What is the most thoughtful feedback you have received from a reader?

One that really stands out is when Comicality emailed me and told me that Dark Earth: The Prophecy was good. That was quite flattering coming from one of the best authors on GA, one who inspired me to write the story in the first place.

Q. Do your characters represent anyone in your life?

I think when you’re writing the kinds of stories, the best way to incorporate realism is to give the characters certain qualities that they share with people you know. For example, King Frederico is loosely based on my late adoptive father, though much more open about his sexual behavior. And no, Queen Viviana is not like my mother. Julian from the Dark Earth series is based on my own dark side, though an extremely over-exaggerated.

Q. What’s your favourite cereal?

Cinnamon Toast Crunch

Q. Are you single?

Unfortunately, yes.

Q. What do you think of Twilight by Stephanie Meyer?

Honestly, I’ve never read it. I know that’s unusual, but what I’ve heard about it doesn’t really appeal to me much.

Q. Tell us a little about The Sorcerous Prince?

The Sorcerous Prince is about a prince named Mihai. He’s recently awakened his magical powers. Even though he’s a late bloomer, he is quite powerful. He has garnered too much attention from demons as well as dark wizards and witches.

Q. Is there another gay online author to whom you look up to, and if so, why?

Oh there are several that come to mind. I mentioned Comicality before. His stories are awesome, especially Gone from Daylight. He really brings his characters to life. He’s also very kind and down to Earth.

Mark Arbour is another. I love how his characters fit into history so well along with all their sexual adventures. And he’s able to wrote so much. I’m kind of jealous, but I admire him for that at the same time.

Jamie is yet another. TSOI is epic! I hate to compare, but he’s the best author I’ve read so far. He’s wonderful with details. Not only does his writing require a lot of research, but it also requires a great deal of imagination with including the fantasy and sci-fi elements. I could totally imagine people acting the way the bad guys in the story do, so that is yet another layer of realism.

Q. Is The Sorcerous Prince intended one book, or will there be a sequel?

It is a series. I’m not sure how many parts it will have, but there will definitely be more than 1. Some of the stories will focus on Mihai while others will be more focused on Pavel.

Q. If you had a million dollars, what would you do with it?

I would travel for about a year and then buy a ranch.

Q. What is on your favourite iPod play list?

Lots of rock, both old and new! Some examples are Slipknot, Linkin Park, Sevendust, Rush, and Led Zeppelin.

Q. Tell me a little bit more about what it is you do for a living.

Right now I’ between jobs. Hopefully, the economy will improve soon…

Q. When do you feel most out of your comfort zone?

In a large crowd, especially when when there is a lot of noise. The reason is probably because of anxiety.

Q. Does anyone in your every-day life know that you write?

Yes they do. I see my mom often, and she knows.

Q. What are the top 5 reasons you started writing specifically gay stories, when there are several other kinds of stories to write?

*The first reason is because there really aren’t a lot of gay-themed stories available.

*I also like showing that gay characters can be manly.

*I love writing about gay sex.

*I like to write stories that I like reading the most.

*I want straight people to know that gay people really aren’t much different than them.

Q. How they get the caramilk into the caramilk bar?

The candy bar fairy waves his magic wand and chants the incantation, creating a caramilk bar out of thin air.

Bonus question: If I were to challenge you to write a story about the fairy creating the caramilk bar, would you? And if so, could you make it interesting?

I probably could. If you find silly flash fiction interesting, then yes.

Q. Do you have any little quirks when you are writing?

Yes! I have to be listening to music. I also need to feel relaxed, that is unless I’m writing a fight scene.

Q. Who do you think you are?

I think I’m someone who’s still trying the find out why we are here.

Only if someone sticks a gun through the window and is aiming it at me. Fortunately, that has never happened.

Katherine Patterson. Her book, Lyddie, really opened my eyes to the evils of unadulterated capitalism and the hardships that early Americans faced.

Q. If you could have one wish, would you give it to me?

To live forever! My reason for wanting to live forever is to see how life advances, not a fear of death.

Q. What’s your favourite board game?

Monopoly

Q. Is there anything you’d like to plug?

My stories as well as the many other quality stories that can be found at gayauthors.org.
