10% off admission

Alright, I don’t really have 10% off to anything. But my blog is still 100% free to read!!

Today I was playing around with OpenID. I was trying to find one of those nifty things that makes it easier to login to the blog from sites such as Twitter, Facebook and so forth in addition to sites like Yahoo! and LiveJournal that serve as OpenID providers. But so far no luck. And I don’t want to break the OpenID system I have right now.

On the good news side, my writing of HIH has started to really pick up. This includes the Logo Contest I announced on my super elite Yahoo! Group!!

It’s May, almost June!

Wow, it’s been a while since I’ve updated my blog.

The California Supreme Court released their ruling on Proposition 8. Their ruling was unsurprising, uninspired, and lacked any originality.

There’s a video at the end of this post that appropriately anchors my feelings.

Then there are whackjobs who want to go to the local U.S. consulate or Embassy to protest. Really… will that actually do anything? No! The court won’t change its mind. And if Canada had done something like this, no one would be protesting at our Embassies or Consulates. Protests are so 1998. Try something more creative, like YouTube.

The Wednesday Post

So for those who have been paying attention lately, the first two chapters of HIH have been released. I’m not going to talk about the plot here, because for now chapter 2 is only available in my Yahoo! Group. I have plans to send Chapter 1 into Nifty sometime soon, most likely today. The good news for everyone is that I have up to chapter 11 finished. This means that I’ll try to release 2 chapters per week, unless I get writers block and have to decrease that. Which could be good as then I’ll write more chapters for My Boyfriend is a Vampire most likely.

My Star Trek addiction, readers, and life.

So my Star Trek has finally come back.

No there isn’t a new TV show out that I am aware of, but there is a Star Trek movie due out in May. It features the original Trek cast, with different actors at a younger age, and is set before the events in the original series. It could be good, or it could be a bust. I’m excited to see it, though I’d love to see a Deep Space 9 movie at some point.

So if it isn’t a TV show, how has my addiction come back?

The Internet.

writing from 9 – 7 and on to heaven

Writing HIH has proved to be a real challenge.

I’m attempting this as a first person story. I rarely write in the first person. But I decided that the third book in the Legendary Warrior series should be from the first person POV. So to do that, I almost have to put myself in the shoes of that character.

In theatre school, they would have called that “method acting“.

Robin of my dreams

Argh! Ive had two songs on my mind recently. The first is Rhythm of my Heart by Rod Stewart, and the other is Rockin Robin. I don’t know why these songs are stuck in my head, but it’s sort of frustrating. And of course Kardon, one of my IRC moderators is being strange tonight. Not sure why, but maybe he’s secretly in love with Justin or Taryin from Comicality’s Gone from Daylight. For some reason Justin has been on my mind too lately, but perhaps that’s just from Com’s quality workmanship.

Surprise revelations and the believable plot

So I’ve been enjoying the story Lycan Bloodline. The writer has taken a lot of care to introduce us to Bryce, a young boy who has to move to British Columbia, Canada to live with his father. Why? It turns out Bryce is a werewolf. And that’s where we take our pause.

I’ve read quite a few sci-fi/fantasy stories on Nifty, and of course I’ve written my own. The thing that bothers me above all else when reading these, is when the protagonist too easily gives in to the “surprise revelation”. So easy that the magic is lost, and you’re brought back to reality.
