So I was hesitant at first, but I’m finally reading Jim Butcher’s The Codex Alera series. I started off with Furies of Caledron and now I’m on to Academ’s Fury. I must admit that it’s not a bad series.
In the first book we meet our protagonist who is without a special power called a Fury, yet most Aleran’s have this ability. So to not have it makes him a lot less of a person. The first book is about overcoming obstacles and showing courage. The next book I’m still near the beginning, so I’ll have to get back to you on it.
Despite the protagonist being heterosexual, the series is a really good read. You have a romance between an honourary Countess and a man old enough to be… older. It has royalty, thugs, and everything you could want in an adventure. I plan to buy all 5 books and perhaps even the sixth when it comes out in November. Oh and it has a spinster! And an old man King!
If all of that wasn’t enough, it even has some death.
It’s a good series, and yeah, I wanna read more. WIll it influence my own writing? We’ll have to wait and see.
